We have visited this campground a few times in the past but this time (April 2009) we had the place to ourselves. The campsites are undergoing renovations (new vault toilets, campfire rings and bbq, new metal ramadas) which are set to be completed May 2009. The auto touring in this area is great (colorful mud and rock formations) and a dark sky for stargazing at night. All size rigs will fit. We even saw a desert tortoise on the road coming in. Come in fall or spring when the weather is not quite as hot.

This was a return visit, we last stayed here a few years ago. Several improvements have been made to the interior roads and the sites. Sites are covered in wood mulch, which makes things less dusty. The restrooms were clean, but had spider webs and they could really use modernization. The interior roads are narrow, but there is plenty of room between you and your neighbor. Overall a pleasant camping experience.

This was our 2nd trip to this park. We stayed in the Anacapa loop, which is non-hookup. There are four loops, and this is the furthest from the ocean. We stayed mid-week and it was still quite full. Very close to town if you need anything. Did not use the bathhouse/restroom. Trains do go by quite close to campsites, but you can still hear the ocean waves. Tidepools are fun too. As this is the beach, things do tend to get sandy and it can get windy as well, but we enjoyed our stay here.

We were is site 23 which is a pull-through hookup site, no sewer. The trees have been thinned out considerably, but there is still shade. The weather could not have been nicer. Golf course is discounted for campers; the museum and marina with kayak & canoe rentals is within walking distance. The bathhouses are pretty good for a state park and maintained everyday. The sites all have a table, fire ring and bbq; the non-hookup sites also have a food locker. Great destination park.

This campground is not near the beach, it is in a valley about 2 miles from San Onofre SB. The sites are roomy and have electric/water hookup. Bathhouses were clean when I looked. Surfing is very good at the beach and the reason most people come here. Your camping fee gets you into the beach parking. Since this is not on the water we may not return to this campground.

This was our third stay here and each time the park gets nicer and nicer. Large, manicured sites with mature trees, good spacing between sites and availability for small and large rigs alike. Bathroom was spotless, even a night. If you don't check in by 5pm there is no one at the gate and you need to call for a code -- luckily another camper was behind us to let us in. Pool and playground plus paddleboats and food for the ducks - something for everyone to do. We will stay here again.

Typical California State Park - park is laid out in circular loops, some bordered by shrubs that back to grassy areas perfect for tents or playing around. Not a good place for large rigs, our 33' TT would have been tight in many of them. The beach is a looooong walk - not the best for swimming due to high surf, no lifeguards etc. This park is very close to the Ventura Harbor for shopping, whale watching tours, and the Visitor Center for Channel Island Nat'l park. No hookups but dump station in the park. Good for a weekend visit, but not too much to do at the park itself.

Stayed here over 4th of July - A little rustic, but you can't go wrong with the river front sites. Lots of amenities too. Nicely maintained, even over a busy weekend. We'll stay here again.

Stayed here over the busy Memorial Day weekend. The park is at the edge of the dunes, not close to the beach. There is horseback riding, and you can borrower saucers to slide down the sand dunes. The beach is about a 1-2 mile drive. Did notice a few permanents, but well kept for the most part. They did not charge me extra for 3 kids, but then again the rate was quite high already. Small store and arcade for the kids, and OHV area close as well. Did not use the bath house. Overall a pretty good park.
